How I Found It: Unplugged Book Box

Flashback to Unplugged Book Box Advent Calendar in 2019 and you know full well that I was super excited about this book! I assumed it would be similar to Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close or a book from my childhood about keys that I will look up from my personal library one of these days, where we are trying to solve a puzzle throughout the entire story. Going into this book, I figured that this would be a really quick read and that once you got into it, you would be hooked. What I didn’t figure is how intricate this book would be. Despite other books of the same length only taking about 4-5 hours to read, this book took SIGNIFICANTLY longer, so be prepared because this one will eat time like it’s its job.

Tuesday is the person who finds out as much personal information about you as possible to guarantee a donation to the hospital. She grew up in Salem, MA and was the best friend of missing girl Abigail Hobbes. She has a best friend named Dex, who has a history in musical theatre and horrible relationships, that she continues to support despite his many woe-is-me moments.

While at a charity dinner for the hospital, Tuesday meets Nathaniel Arches, who definitely doesn’t match the person she’s researched. But when bajillionaire Vincent Pryce dies of an aneurysm, Tuesday’s life changed forever.

Upon his death, Vincent Pryce designed a game that encourages people to find and piece together clues that would result in a hidden treasure. Soon, Nathaniel comes to Tuesday’s door asking for her help in solving the puzzles, leading to what often times feels like a wild goose chase. Filled with twists and turns, this novel will take you on a wild ride that will make you stop and think so many times you won’t believe it!

I really enjoyed this one, but I did wish that there were more clues to the story. It felt like we were about to enter a much more intense scavenger hunt than we actually did. But at the same time, the overall story was so complex that I get why aspects of the scavenger hunt took a back seat. I also think that Tuesday’s and Archie’s relationship did not need to turn physical. Especially when it did nothing for the story or their storyline. It felt unnecessary and cheap.

There is obviously a lot of the story that I haven’t talked about, and parts of the story that I hinted at by introducing characters, that I didn’t include because I don’t want this post to be 20 pages long. But at the end of the day, you really need to read this one to see what it is about, and I hope you guys like it as much as I did! I will give this book 4 out of 5 stars, with a possibility of being 4.5.

Unplugged Advent Calendar Day 10

Happy Christmas Eve everyone! Sadly, today marks the last day of this advent calendar, but I am pretty sure today’s gift is a book, which is the best gift of all!

BRO! Firstly, this is a gorgeous cover! Secondly, this is probably the most excited I have been for a book from these advent calendars! It seems like an adventure/mystery/puzzle book, which is super cool and right up my alley! I’m not sure I could use more exclamation points I am that excited! I can go ahead and guarantee that you will see a review in the very near future!

Unplugged Advent Calendar Day 9

For the past 9 days, I have been super mad at this advent calendar. I spent almost $50, and I thought they didn’t give me the 10 presents I paid for (yea, I hear the entitlement in that sentence). Thankfully, there is a present within this book sleeve, so nobody is going to get any nasty emails this holiday season!

As you can tell from the first picture, at some point in me going in and out of this box, a hole showed up in the packaging (which is tissue paper, so it makes sense). I had figured that it was a book by the weight and the size, so I had been trying to figure out what book it could be by the colors I could see. But this is probably SOOOOO much better of an outcome. The colors of the book sleeve are right up my alley, and I am so excited to put the sleeve to use! I also like that it has a closure so the book doesn’t slide out of the sleeve.

Unplugged Advent Calendar Day 7/8

At first glance, I knew right away that it was going to be a mug. I have yet to read The Cruel Prince (I know, I need to step up my game) but I have many items related to The Cruel Prince, so I’m halfway there, right?

I don’t know if this gift is specific to a particular novel, but who doesn’t love a rustic looking key? Fun fact: I have wanted a key necklace since I started watching Zoey 101 over a decade ago. I also think old time keys look so cool, so I’m happy for this one!

Unplugged Advent Calendar Day 6

Today’s gift is a lip balm! I can’t tell a specific novel that this was based on, but the packaging is so beautiful! It only says apothecary lip balm, which does not help with the flavor at all, but I think it is cherry? I can’t look up the flavor because it is an exclusive item, but if you would like any similar products, you can go to delightnaturals.com to check out the tons of flavors they have! (According to their site, everything in their lip balms and lotions are all natural. There is no mention of being vegetarian or vegan.)

Unplugged Advent Calendar Day 5

Today’s gift is another, larger, candle! This one smells SOOOOOO good! Also, is it a thing now to use a piece of wood instead of a wick? I literally have never seen that before yesterday, but I dig it.

Okay, so the character. I had never heard of Kaz Brekker (though I did think of Baz from the Simon Snow series), but research into the “Gishaverse” tells me that he is a character from the Gisha series (originally a trilogy, but there are other books that are also part of the Gishaverse). I have never read this series (obviously), but super down for this candle.

Unplugged Advent Calendar Day 3/4

Hi! I am awful at this, and I know! But hey, at least I’m trying, right? (insert meme of internally screaming) ANYWHO, I am going to be posting both today’s and yesterday’s gifts in this post, so let’s get into it!

Like yesterday, this gift is also vegan, so thank you from this sensitive skinned baby! I will be honest, I don’t like this one as much as the lotion, but I am sure I will still use it! I have not read A Court of Throne and Roses, but I am up to read it if you guys want it!

Both my dogs were really excited for this one, especially Britt (pictured). I have not received a candle from Book Nook, but the candle has a wood piece inside instead of a wick, which I think is really cool. Also, Game of Thrones. Do I need to say more? (Side note: I have seen the entire show, but not read the books, so they are on my TBR pile! Hopefully posts will come out this year!)

Thanks guys for your patience, and I will see you all tomorrow!

Unplugged Advent Calendar Day 2

Today’s gift is lotion! So a head’s up for those of you that have never seen this box: all of their gifts are made with natural ingredients and are also encourage being “unplugged” from the world and into a book. As someone who has psoriasis and also the most sensitive skin that seems to react to EVERYTHING unnatural, I am so happy to have natural lotion. My only problem with this gift is that it is so tiny so there is so little to enjoy (especially for a $50 box value)!

Unplugged Advent Calendar Day 1

Hi everyone! I know it has been a while, but I am working away over here, I promise! There will be an update about posts soon, but for now, I wanted to share some of the amazing holiday themed book packages that I have ordered!

(Side note: I will be posting another advent calendar as soon as I get it! I currently have zero updates on that front, so bear with me!)

Today’s gifts: BOOKMARKS! (and a magnet)

Firstly: the magnet is from The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang, which delves into dating as someone on the autism spectrum. I love these books because not only are they steamy, but they provide a look-in to a mental disorder without making it a novelty.

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is one of my favorite books, so I am really excited to get this bookmark! As for the others, I have never seen Supernatural (I know, I am ashamed) and I have never read A Curse So Dark and Lonely, but I am still excited to receive this!

Thank you guys for checking in, and I will see you all tomorrow!
