Ways Without End by TM Sigal
Genuinely, I loved this story. It was similar to Spinning Silver, which I don’t have a review posted for, but you should really read it. It is uniquely fantastical, and I really liked it. (Also, for friends who liked The Giver Quartet, this has some of those vibes as well).
As she sat up in bed, she noticed a small package on her night table. Reaching over, she picked it up. It was a scrap of rough canvas cloth, tied around a soft object with tweed string. Eagerly, she tore it open, and smiled at what she found.
Okay, this hat, while not really my style, is incredibly nice. It is fleece-lined, and has the leather patch that says “Books are life”, and I am sad it goes with literally nothing in my closet.
